ARAMARK to support military permanent joint headquarters in Middlesex

ARAMARK has secured a ten-year deal worth £51.8 million as the prime sub-contractor to a PFI consortium, comprising Carillion Private Finance (Defence) Limited and HSBC Infrastructure Fund Management Limited. The PFI project will see the significant redevelopment of the 43-acre site at Northwood, Middlesex, the home of the Permanent Joint Headquarters (PJHQ), Fleet and NATO Headquarters, which runs all UK military operations worldwide. ARAMARK will deliver traditional multi-activity services, including catering, retail and leisure. The contract will incorporate the transition to and roll out of Pay As You Dine in the second year of the contract, which started on 30 October 2006.

PJHQ is responsible for all UK involvement in overseas operations, as well as maintaining the Permanent Joint Operating Bases, from the South Atlantic to the Indian Ocean. Since 1996, the busy Headquarters has responded to the challenges of taking responsibility for military operations and bases around the world. As its task has outgrown the existing site’s infrastructure, PJHQ's redevelopment has become essential.

Martyn Palmer, the Programme Director responsible for delivering the project, said: "Carillion is delighted to have Aramark as its catering partner working together with the MoD to deliver a positive, 21st Century environment in which the Chief of Joint Operations, Fleet and NATO personnel can live and work."

Neil Shroeder, Business Development Director for ARAMARK Defence (UK), said: "The award of this contract is a major step forward for us, marking a step change in our involvement in the PFI line of business. I look forward to a long and fruitful relationship with Carillion Defence. In approaching this major initiative, we focused on understanding their strategic business objectives, putting together an offer in tune with their goals. Throughout the process, we have each been able to understand the other company's vision and values, ensuring that the partnering arrangements will help each organisation into the future. I look forward to supporting Carillion through our delivery of a wide range of crucial support services to the modernised Headquarters. This is obviously an important project for the MoD, and we are confident that ARAMARK's expertise will help to deliver real benefits for Northwood Headquarters and an improvement in service for the individual."
