ARAMARK Backs British Food Fortnight

01/08/2007

ARAMARK, one of the UK's leading contract catering firms, has put its money where its mouth is, as one of the main sponsors of this year's British Food Fortnight.

The fortnight, now in its sixth year, is running from 22nd September to 7th October and is the biggest national celebration of the delicious range of food produced in Britain. ARAMARK's involvement will encourage caterers across its operations to buy British and produce British-inspired menus.

Caterers in 350 units across all of ARAMARK's market sectors will receive a CD of recipe ideas, developed specially by ARAMARK's development chefs, whilst a bespoke promotional mechanic 'Around Britain in a Fortnight'will help to drive sales.

When purchasing a British meal from the units, consumers will receive an 'Around Britain in a Fortnight' gamecard, featuring 'just for fun' questions and facts on British foods. At the end of the promotion, the gamecard will be entered into a free prize draw for a chance to win one of five luxury weekends at the Devonshire Arms in North Yorkshire.

This year's British Food Fortnight will also focus on increasing awareness amongst children about British food, educating on seasonality, provenance and how to cook a British meal, so that upon leaving school, children understand the need to buy, cook and eat locally sourced British foods.

With this in mind, ARAMARK chefs will use the fortnight to spread their wealth of knowledge in primary and secondary schools across the country – which also coincides with the Harvest Festival celebrations. The chefs will not only talk to the children on the importance of using British produce but demonstrate how to cook up a seasonal feast using a selection of locally sourced vegetables, fruit, meat and seafood.

Frazer Rendell, ARAMARK’s Retail Promotions Director, comments: “This is the second year we have backed British Food Fortnight, in a bid to educate on the excellent foods available from across the British Isles. We hope our units enjoy being involved and that the school children benefit from our chef's visits."
