ARAMARK Offshore receives ROSPA President's Award

12/04/2012

ARAMARK Offshore has been awarded the RoSPA President's Award for Occupational Health & Safety for achieving 13 years at RoSPA's Gold level for its commitment to health and safety management in the workplace. The company has also been awarded the British Safety Council International Safety Award.

ARAMARK, a leading service provider to the offshore industry since 1977, has been awarded the RoSPA accolade for a second time in recognition of its safety performance in the field. The company provides hotel, catering and facilities management services across 57 remote sites within the North Sea alone.

Mike Ball, Managing Director, ARAMARK Scotland & Offshore commented on this latest achievement:

"In ARAMARK, safety is embedded within our culture; it is our No 1 priority. Safety underpins everything we do. It is critical we ensure all our personnel work in a safe environment and to the highest standards at all times. This benchmark and industry leading achievement provides our employees and customers with an external measurement of our performance.

"Pushing the boundaries of best practice in safety performance is achieved through thought leadership and the diligent approach taken by Andrew Thomson, Director of Operations, Offshore and his team including Neill Murray, HSE Manager. Safety leadership on every level of our operation is paramount to our continued success. We require all our managers to lead their teams by example. Total compliance and disciplined execution of safe behaviours and safe standards of work is a non negotiable.

"We set the highest expectations with our team which is organised around clearly defined roles and responsibilities at every level. Open access lines of communication with management underpin a 'one best team' approach. Moreover, everyone is empowered to challenge wherever they feel their own or their colleagues' safety is potentially compromised.

"Indeed through the safety engagement of our offshore workforce we have achieved 3,504,984 hours with no lost time due to injury and scored 93% DeX ('Days of Excellence' - % of days worked without injury, occupational ill health or food contamination) against a benchmark of 90%.

"We're naturally proud to acknowledge our performance has again been recognised with the award of such prestigious accolades. However, there is absolutely no room for complacency. We will continue to strive toward improving our safety performance for the benefit of all stakeholders."

The RoSPA Safety Awards is the longest running and most highly respected occupational safety award programme. The scheme is open to organisations of all sizes, from the full spectrum of work activities and from across the globe. The competitive sector awards recognise the organisations that have demonstrated the best health and safety management performance within specific industry sectors.
