In a contract worth £4.4m over three years HMS Caledonia, the shore-based Royal Navy training establishment, located within the naval dockyard at Rosyth, will be under the “command” of ARAMARK’s specialist defence business from December 2009.
The base, which serves on average 150 customers daily, from junior to senior officers, plans to implement a move to a Catering Retail Leisure Contract (CRL) otherwise known as pay as you dine, explains Stewart McCulloch, Business Development Director:
“Our extensive heritage working with the military means we have worked with multiple sites in all three services, often in challenging environments to provide exceptional catering and facilities management services and to help them switch over to CRL. The management required in moving from a “daily messing rate” cannot be underestimated, it is a cultural shift for those using the mess, and as such needs to be handled in a professional manner. This is something we are well versed in and always work closely with our catering staff and provide extensive training to ensure the process is seamless.”
In addition to handling the CRL project, ARAMARK will be looking to improve the standards of catering and cleaning immediately and will look to review the entire operation once it is in place. ARAMARK will look after all catering on site, cleaning, waste removal and laundry and as part of its contract has also agreed gainshare return to the client.
