ARAMARK, the food and facilities management company, has pulled yet another award out of the bag, winning not one, but two, Cost Sector Catering Awards. At this March's award ceremony, it scooped the Corporate Social Responsibility Award and Contract Caterer Award.
Val Carter, corporate responsibility director at ARAMARK, and who also sits on the board of Business Action on Health, said: "When I joined back in the summer, we didn't actually have a corporate social responsibility programme, but that didn’t stop us from setting ambitious goals to achieve! And, in February we rolled out months of hard work to units around the country.
"Basically, each division received a training and awareness pack that included a CD presentation, an A5 double-sided flyer for each staff member to take home, which documented a Top 10 action plan for changes at work, in the community and at home. The pack aims to explain issues such as sustainability, obesity, Fairtrade, food miles and carbon footprint together with suggestions to change behaviour. All the teams then carry out an online quiz to help us measure participation and success. A regular 'green' newsletter is also planned and units can earn points at work and at home with the winning team."
Andrew Main, Chief Executive Officer at ARAMARK, talks about winning the much coveted Contract Caterer Award: "We won several high profile clients last year and this combined with the launch of our new Innovation Centre, meant we had a year to remember. Our success is a real testament to the entire company’s hard work and dedication."
These recent accolades come hot on the heels of the Scottish IOD awards in which ARAMARK enjoyed a double celebration where Susan Elston, Managing Director of Offshore and Remote Sites was recognised for her valuable contribution to the industry.
