ARAMARK and its Offshore Division based in Aberdeen, has success on a plate after winning a quintet of awards in 2007.
In just under a year, ARAMARK put 712 unit managers, chefs and operations managers through the Operations Excellence programme, known as OpX, which trains its catering managers and executive chefs in financial controls in food production. The success of the programme has won them a coveted National Training Award 2007, presented to ARAMARK on 13 December 2007. The Offshore team, which looks after the thousands of employees who work on offshore gas and oil platforms, was key to the rollout of OpX.
With a different operating model to the rest of the ARAMARK business, Offshore appointed four Operations Managers to work directly with the OpX Director. Together, they adapted the programme to suit the team's needs and incorporate best practice procedures already in place. Each Operations Manager piloted the programme at one of their sites. A Divisional Champion, selected from the four Operations Managers, became the key link for training and updating the managers on the offshore platforms and ensured the swift implementation of the programme.
The achievements of the OpX programme also resulted in the win of a second training accolade at IGD Food Industry Awards - The John Sainsbury Award for Learning and Development. The award recognises real commitment to people development and is awarded for an initiative which has delivered demonstrable business results, people development, sustained learning and on-going performance improvement.
The Offshore team's commitment to its people has earned them a third Investors in People Scotland (IIP) accreditation. IIP helps to ensure consistency in the way people are managed and developed and helps to improve communication and employee motivation. Susan Elston, Managing Director, ARAMARK Offshore and Remote Sites, and Keith Weston, Commercial Director, represented Offshore and collected an award in recognition of their decade of continuous IIP accreditation, during the glittering Ten Year Achievement Awards at Stirling Castle in November.
To top off the quintet of honours, Offshore won the RoSPA Hotel and Catering Sector Award for Occupational Health and Safety for 2007. The award, announced in May, was the fifth win for the team in the last six years and recognises the organisation that demonstrates the best health and safety management performance within the catering sector. A further RoSPA award, the 2007 Scotland Trophy for Occupational Health and Safety for all industries, was also presented to the team in September.
"These awards are recognition of the vision and focus on safety, training, and our people that we apply throughout the Offshore business and beyond. We are, rightly, proud of these achievements. I am delighted with the improved morale, motivation and pro-activity among our employees. The team’s continued commitment, which has so consistently achieved high performance standards, has also resulted in these successes" says Susan Elston. "Our people work together and rely on each other to ensure both a safe workplace and an environment focused on development and progression."
