"There ain't no mountain high enough" for ARAMARK as a team of 20 employees joined by its Chief Executive Officer, Andrew Main, embark on an ambitious and daring hike of Scotland, England, Wales, Northern Ireland and the Irish Republic's five highest mountains - totalling 17,336 feet (and driving 1900 miles non stop) in just 48 hours!
Spearheaded by Janine Marco, Senior Buyer, at ARAMARK, the annual fundraiser began over five years ago and in that time the group has conquered "3 Peaks", The Isle of Wight Coastal Path and "24 Peaks in the Lake District" and a gruelling run along Hadrian's Wall. Last year, over £54,000 was raised for ARAMARK's corporate charity and this year with the Challenge and a race day it is hoped they will reach £60,000 for Childline and Macmillan Nurses.
Talking about the Challenge, which will take place on 11th June, Val Carter, Corporate Responsibility (CR) Director, said:
"This is no mean feat. It will be challenging for even the fittest of people but it shows the level of dedication shown by the team. 20 people are taking part from all areas of the company, 12 undertaking the physical climb and eight support staff providing water, food, medical assistance and driving to and from each peak to ensure the climbers meet the deadlines set"
"This initiative is just one of the valuable and important contributions our employees are making to ARAMARK's award-winning corporate responsibility programme. As a company we are fully committed to building CR awareness and this means embracing a series of initiatives back into our business plans. Not only is this a tremendously worthwhile cause but the team spirit and relationship build is also unique around such an event" concluded Val.
