It's Back and It's Better Than Ever!
With the return of British Food Fortnight 2008 only a matter of weeks away (20th September - 5th October) ARAMARK, the food service company, announces what it has in store for this year, and why it promises to be even bigger and better.
With more than 400 ARAMARK sites fully committed to events and varying activities throughout this period, Frazer Rendell, Retail Promotions Director at ARAMARK, details just a couple of highlights in store for its units and local pupils:
"We have added even more British lines to sites and now have more than 500 British lines available to our units throughout the country to encourage uptake in local, sustainable goods, while giving customers the chance to try something new and exciting and, most importantly, British."
"On top of the new menus and focus on ingredients from the last two years, we will also be introducing British Value Bundles throughout September and the Fortnight. This will allow us to also celebrate the hard work that many manufacturers have put into ensuring we support British farming and production. We will have deal promotions on Walkers, Ribena, Copella, Muller yoghurts and Buxton water.
"To learn more about these British ingredients, managers have been invited to roadshows around the country which have been hosted by the manufacturers to meet farmers, see production and hear about how these great local ingredients get turned into some of the biggest names in food."
"The managers have all been surprised about the care, attention and quality that go in to creating these products, and will be returning to their units with heightened appreciation for these products."
But, it will not just be ARAMARK sites which benefit, pupils from participating schools also have much to look forward to this year:
"We have looked at what the crowd pleasers were last year. We have packed full our line up with activities such as tours around local working organic farms, which give the children the chance to really experience first hand the production of dairy and wheat, as well as giving them the opportunity to see the farmyard animals," continued Rendell.
"In addition, this year we have over 50 ARAMARK chefs across the country going into schools to help educate school children about sustainable food and, in particular, what we as a country have to offer. By teaming up with LEAF, which is an organisation dedicated to protecting the environment and encouraging sustainable produce, we are able to not only send our own chefs but also farmers from the local area to talk directly to pupils and really engage with them in a way a book can't."
