ARAMARK Supports British Food Fortnight 2010 at 50 Schools

14/09/2010

ARAMARK supports British Food Fortnight (18 September and 3 October) by engaging with nearly 50 schools to help push British local sourcing up the consumer agenda.

As additional activity this year, ARAMARK is supporting seven Sure Start Centres in deprived areas across the UK.  The company’s chefs are leading a series of cookery sessions with parents using the centres, leading up to a large family feast during the fortnight itself.  The goal of the sessions is to help teach parents how to cook, where to buy healthy British seasonal food and how to incorporate 5 A DAY into their family's meals.

The events are backed by the launch of ARAMARK’s Great British menu and recipe card, which is full of the best British classics to inspire home cooking and the use of local produce across its customer base.  The recipes have been created by ARAMARK and will include dishes that have been developed by celebrity chefs.  British favourites such as Fisherman’s Pie, Parsnip Soup and Bread and Butter Pudding all feature within ARAMARK’s special BFF recipe card.

Val Carter, Corporate Responsibility Director, ARAMARK comments: “So far the uptake has been impressive.  Sure Start courses have been over-subscribed, for example the London sessions have had nearly three times as many attendees than was anticipated.

“With home cooking now back on the agenda for consumers it’s important for our teams to show just what they can offer in terms of fresh produce, seasonality and creativity.  ARAMARK has a long-standing partnership with British Food Fortnight and has committed to sponsoring until at least 2012.  Supporting food education amongst the wider community is a big part of our ongoing CR programme and British Food Fortnight is a great vehicle for this.  We’re proud to be involved with so many schools and workplaces this year and look forward to creating an even bigger buzz in 2011.”
